After giving birth to my second child my body was exhausted and so was I. I needed to make changes and I needed to make them fast in order to get though the day and to start enjoying my children and my life a little more. To start with I just made little changes. I wasn’t going to resolve to be ‘super fit’ or be a ‘Super Mum’ for that matter, I just wanted to operate on a level above ‘barely existing.’
The first thing I did was change my diet. I started eating less wheat laden foods, less processed cakes and take away food and more home made vitamized soups. I made sure that most of my snack food consisted of fruit, dry biscuits and cheese or almonds (I forced myself to eventually like them). I also drank a lot of water or soda water with a splash of lemon cordial and tried incredibly hard not too eat too much chocolate. Sometimes I succeeded in this quest and other days I failed.
I tried to eat more when I was hungry and less when I was bored and I also started having smaller more regular meals, that I could easily grab and snack on without having to do a lot of preparation. Hence, I needed to have healthy pre-prepared foods that I could reach for and eat when needed rather than snacking on junk. I chose to either not buy junk food or hide it in the house where I couldn't see it. I found that if I couldn't see it I would forget that it was there.
This new eating regime of mine was quite difficult and I did sometimes stray from my target, but I did at least find that I wasn't feeling so lethargic or so bloated and that in turn made a difference to my attitude and how I saw myself. Plus it did help me to lose some of those extra baby kilos and made me feel healthier.
I needed desperately to renew my vigor for life and since I could control my eating I found that this was a good place to start. i also realized that if I didn't start eating properly soon and looking after myself that I was going to continue to feel unwell for a while to come.
I believe that it’s incredibly important for our well being that we truly enjoy what we do and learn to appreciate what life is all about.
We should be spending more time making ourselves feel good and learning how we can enrich our lives just by making a few simple changes, rather than getting caught up in the mad rush of our everday lives. I do however realize that this is easier said than done. That's why on the opposite side I have added a list of things that might help to get you started toward enjoying a better and happier you.
There comes a time in life when we all could use a little help and learn how to do things better in terms of helping ourselves and improving our way of life. Sometimes we need to learn how to heal ourselves better, how to deal with our anger better and how to genuinely allow ourselves true time to grieve and deal with what life throws at us without feeling guilty or too stressed. Therefore it’s important that we learn how to have a better understanding of ourselves and what makes us happy.
For me personally I now allow myself some time once a week for just me (by the way, yes I do have kids, 2 of them, girls, nearly 2 and 7, I also work part-time and have a husband who works incredibly long hours). Even if I only have 30 minutes, I need to give myself time to heal, to meditate, to walk and to do what I need to do to make me a happier and calmer person.

For just a short time each week I need to have no-one else placing any demands on me. I need to have my space and my time. That time may even be just 10 minutes of meditation 4 times a week. Although naturally I would prefer a lot more time than this, but that’s not always possible.
I also do things like going to a movie once a month with a girlfriend, going out for dinner once every few weeks with my husband or my girlfriends and having the occasional weekend away without the kids. Occasional being once or twice a year. On top of this I try to make it to dancing once a week for an hour, to have a little fun and a little exercise as well.
I need to know that there is something that I am doing just for me, something that is fun, enjoyable, relaxing and makes me a better, calmer and more relaxed person because of it. I need to know that the changes I am making in the short term will help me in the long term and will benefit my health and also those around me.
In doing this, I feel as if I have a purpose and that I have a small section of my life that I have control over and that I get to enjoy just for me. For me, this is what makes a difference in my life and my attitude towards my family and what goes on around me. It makes me realize that as a wife, a mother and a person I do have a life that matters.

Therefore to help you get more out of your life, I have listed below some of the things that can help to improve your everyday way of life and give you back some quality you time that really can make a difference to how you view the world and how you see yourself.
Practical ways to help you get there
-
